Dave wins the Pacific Raceways Road Race Series for a record 5th time!

Event Name:Pacific Raceways Road Race Series
Date:March - August Tuesday nights
Description:Circuit race series at Pacific Raceways promoted by BuDu Racing
Masters:1st - Dave Hecht

For an incredible 5th time Dave Hecht (2nd position in photo) has won the Masters division of the Pacific Raceways Road Race Series.

Dave's remarkable durability (if he crashes he's not out of action for long) and consistency (he rarely misses an event) combined with dedicated teamwork (the series came down to the 2nd-to-last race!) have let him prove again and again that even at 50 years of age he is a force to be reckoned with.

Congratulations Dave!

And thanks to all the teammates that showed up and made this victory possible.

Interested in Joining the FareStart Team?

We are the FareStart team (USA Cycling Club Thumbprint Racing), an amateur bicycle racing team made up of Pacific Northwest racers. Our goal is to leave a positive mark on our community by:

* Fostering a team that is known for both racing accomplishments as well as strength of character.
* Bringing visibility and business to our sponsors.
* Taking an active role in support of FareStart.

Many companies sponsor teams to get exposure for their brand. When we started this team three years ago, we wanted to try a different model, one that featured a charity instead of a typical for-profit company. FareStart helps to train the homeless and disadvantaged to work in the food service industry and will be our charity again in 2012. Team members can show their support in a variety of fun ways such as working a "guest chef" night - you think a criterium is hard? Try dinner service for 200!

Our team is comprised of experienced men and women cyclists who compete in all categories and disciplines of bicycle racing, including road, track, cyclocross, and mountain biking. Our members are comprised of category 2-4 Women, category 2-5 Men, a WA State BARR Champion, a Washington Cup Champion, a Masters National Champion, and a male model who wins all kinds of ultra-running races. Many of us are all well known in the racing community and we try to be regulars at the front of any bike race.

Rather than hosting a 'meet-the-team' ride, we will be hosting an informal 'meet-the-team' party later this month on August 26th at FootWorks PT studios from 5:30PM to 7:30PM and would like to meet any interested racers at that time. New members are accepted only after endorsement by existing members so if you know any FareStart racers please let them know soon if you are interested in joining our team.

Questions? Please send us a message here.

Thank you!

Jeff Dunn WINS Portland Crit

Event Name:Portland Twilight Criterion
Date:August 12, 2011
Description:As reported in Oregon Cycling Action;

The fastest teams from across the Pacific Northwest competed for the area’s largest purse at the Portland Twilight Criterium, presented by Subaru. The race was on city streets in the heart of Downtown Portland. The North Park Blocks between 8th and 9th between Flanders and Couch had food carts, a handbuilt bicycle show and a beer garden as Portlanders flock to see the city’s most high-profile race. Races include the 45-minute Cat 3 and the 60-minute Cat 1/2 race begins at 7:30.

Jeff Dunn of Seattle won the 45-minute Cat 3 race with a daring solo attack on the third-from-last lap. The FareStart p/b Cobalt Mortgage rider, who had never before won a mass-start race, said he was simply trying to close down an escape attempt when he unwittingly created gap and decided to see if he could make it work.

Dunn flew over the course and built a workable advantage until Ironclad Performance Wear’s Daniel Penner, who had been active the entire race along with Clint Culpepper (Embrocation Cycling), Alex Clemens (Team Oregon/Laurelwood Brewing) and others, chased furiously trying to bring Dunn back.

Penner’s effort ultimately fell just short, and Jeff claimed the biggest win of his cycling career.

Congratulations on a beautiful victory Jeff.

Good Times in Bend

Jeff enjoys the action of the Pro peloton

Event Name:Cascade Cycling Classic
Date:July 22-24, 2011
Description:Three day, four-stage event in Bend, Oregon. Congratulations to our team members who finished this tough race: Alex Telitsine (cat 2), Jeff Dunn (cat 3), Lane Seeley (cat 4), Andrew Eisen (cat 4), Dean Jasper (cat 4), Tim Whiteaker (cat 4)
Cat 4 Men GC:4th - Lane Seeley +1:49 (Stage 1 Road Race: 5th; Stage 2 Time Trial: 5th; Stage 3 Criterium: 8th; Stage 4 Circuit Race: 3rd)

Lane had this to say following Stage 4: "It was great having teammates to work with in the final circuit race. With about 5k to go we hit the last sharp climb up Archie Briggs road. Dean moved to the front and shattered what remained of the field. When I crested onto Mt. Washington in third only 18 riders were able to hang on to the lead group. Dean's attack took the legs off of everyone for the sprint and I was able to pull away for 3rd, stage podium, and a six pack of Deschutes. Dana Skriver, the CA state Cat 4 TT champ was unable to rejoin the lead group so I jumped past him into 4th GC. Not quite the podium but we left our mark on the Cat 4 race."
